How to apply:

You need to complete an eligibility application:

Email part1eligibility@rcog.org.uk with the email subject: "Part 1 Eligibility Assessment Application [insert your College number]"

Attach the completed form.

A scan or photo of your original primary medical degree certificate
OR -
A scan or photo of your medical registration certificate, provided it states your primary medical degree and university

You will then receive an automatic response about the next steps to follow.

2 x single best answer written papers

100 SBAs in each paper

Maximum number of attempts at Part 1 is 6.
Part 2
Compulsory for progression to ST6.

You must attempt Part 2 at least once in the 7 years after completing Part 1.

Submit ‘Assessment of Training’ form

Route A – for UK trainees with a National Training Number. Must be at ST3 level or above at date of application for Assessment of Training.

Route B – for those without a National Training Number. Must have a minimum of 4yr full time working in Obstetrics & Gynaecology here or abroad, with a minimum of 2yr in the last 4yr.

Allow 8 weeks for the Assessment of Training to be processed. If you haven’t heard after 8 weeks email examstraining@rcog.org.uk

recommended to spend 70mins on SBAs and 110mins on EMQs

Part 3
Compulsory for progression to ST6.

You must attempt Part 3 at least once in the 7 years after completing Part 2. Many people choose to take it soon after Part 2.

Circuit with 14 interactive stations

Each station is based on one of the 14 modules in the syllabus

Each station assesses 3-4 of 5 possible marking domains:

Patient safety
-
Communication with patients and their relatives

Communication with colleagues

Information gathering
-
Applied clinical knowledge
-

Each station lasts 12 minutes, including 2 mins reading time

Each station with have one trained clinical examiner
-
4 stations will also have a lay examiner

Two types of station:
-
Simulated patient/colleague tasks: involving interactions with an actor in a simulated scenario.

Structured discussion: direct interaction with clinical examiner.

Some stations may be linked, requiring using information from the previous station
